Grant City, Missouri
...is the county seat of the smallest county, in terms of geography, in Missouri. The town was officially establied in 1863. A large courthouse was built on the town square in 1897. The building has been restored and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Grant City is the boyhood home of bandleader Glenn Miller. Worth County band director J.D. Masbarger financed the purchase of Miller's first trombone.

Allendale began its existence as Allenville in 1855. The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints built a church building on Allendale's main street in 1887. The Allendale Baptist Church was established in 1890. There are several older wooden churches and schoolhouses in the surrounding countryside, including the Nation Schoolhouse which was mentioned in a Clint Eastwood movie.

One man made quite a mark on the Denver community in Worth County. Louis Powanz, a Denver resident, oversaw the construction of several concrete block business buildings, a bandstand, and some stone fences and adornments (1904-12) which still exist. Originally called Fairview, Denver was founded around a water mill and later became popular for its fashionable mineral spring and bathhouse. By 1920 Denver was a bustling town but only remnants of that propserous time remain. The McElvain house (the oldest house in Denver, made from locally kilned brick in 1875), an old jail and remnants of the bathhouse can be seen although no renovation is obvious. The Seat Memorial Demonstration Farm is nearby, operated by the Missouri Department of Conservation.

Sheridan's Old Defiance Days celebrates the town's history. Originally called Defiance, the town was built around a small grist mill on the Platt River. In 1887 the town was moved about a half mile west, renamed Sheridan, and developed along a railroad. One of the stone burrs that crushed grain in the mill is displayed in the town park, and a mural depicting the history of Sheridan became part of the Farmers State Bank building in town.

The town of Worth was established in 1899 when the railroad was extended from Albany to Grant City. It is located near Middle Fork of the Grand River. The town was almost destroyed by a tornado on April 29, 1947.
