HOLT COUNTY
Bob Brown Conservation Area
is 2.5 miles west of Forest City on Old Highway 111. This 3,302-acre area contains
portions of the Missouri River, Squaw Creek, Cannon Creek and Kimsey Creek. Together with
two ponds, there are 13 acres of fishable water. There are nine trails (some along levee
tops) totaling 12 miles in length.

Conservation Area is on Highway 159 (west off I-29, exit 79) and is adjacent to
Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge. This 225-acre area contains 67 acres of loess hill
prairie natural area and a 1.2-mile hiking trail.
Maitland Access is
near the town of Maitland where Highway A crosses the Nodaway River. This is a 1-acre
access and has no boat ramp.
Monkey Mountain
Conservation Area is 3 miles west of I-29 on Highway 59, 5 miles south on Highway
U, then 1.5 miles east on a gravel road. This 787-acre area is on the Nodaway River.
Nodaway Valley Conservation

Payne Landing Access is
2.25 miles west of Oregon on Highway 111, 2.5 miles south on Highway T, then 2.5 miles
right on a gravel road ( watch for signs). This is a 3-acre area on the Missouri River
with a boat ramp.
To reach Riverbreaks Conservation Area
(two tracts), take U.S. 59 to Highway O. Go 3.25 miles south on Highway O and watch the
west side of the road for the cantilever sign to the main area. Interesting features on
this 2,307-acre area include a mesic upland forest along Whales Creek and a cemetery with
12 headstones dating from the 1860s. The area has a firearms range accessible to
wheelchairs.
H.F. Thurnau Conservation
Area is on Highway 111, west of Highway 59. A stretch of the Missouri River flows
through this 366-acre forested area, and there are three hiking trails.
